The Inga and Kamëntšá peoples of Colombia refer to this flower as watsimba. This summer-flowering bulbous herbaceous perennial is widespread across much of Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico. It is naturalized in Ecuador and Peru.
